With an interest in the ecology of nonhuman life, Adrian Ganea and Chlorys propose a work that explores and studies shapeless masses, slippery sludges and slime structures – the template for all organic beings and all eventual thought on Earth.
A post-apocalyptic world not far removed from our own is taken over by slimes in Adrian Ganea’s and Chlorys’ essayistic work – inspired by the ideas of Octavia E. Butler and Paul B. Preciado – on the possibilities of a new genesis and ontology. Realistic images of abandoned sites of extreme exploitation and pollution, with their altered environments and decaying buildings, are infiltrated by speculative, rapidly spreading, shapeshifting organisms rendered through 3D animation. Once relegated to the margins of human thought and existence, the formless globs of slime now seeping through the walls and cracks of the man-made hell come to embody hope, as an immaterial narrator finds comfort in the perennial promise of a new bacterial era.
A founding member of the artists group virtuellestheater, Adrian Ganea is drawn to the unreal, intrigued by the magic of the intangible and the ways the bodiless virtual subject can materialize and transpire into the solid, real world. In his work, he aims to enact the production of fiction, often reflecting on its increasing automation. His practice ranges from designing scenography to programming CG simulations and composing videos. His master’s degree project in Set Design from UDK Berlin, titled “Cyborgia”, is based on Paul B. Preciado’s essay: How Pompeii Invented Pornography, The “Gabinetto Segreto” and the Sexopolitical Foundations of the Modern European Metropolis.
