Using thermal camera footage found online, Stefan Kruse Jørgensen puts together uncanny images of day-to-day Paris while pondering on the history, proliferation and nature of surveillance technologies.
One might not immediately think about connecting such a common element of social life as public illumination systems with the development of all-consuming panoptic modern surveillance state – yet this is precisely what Stefan Kruse Jørgensen does în „A Lack of Clarity”, unearthing the disturbing meanings behind technologies that are often taken for granted. His thermal images offer an uncanny vision of daily life, one that brings to mind military imagery (think „Collateral Murder”), underlining how footage that might seem mundane to the normal eye is instrumental to the surveillance system.
