A young director struggles to make queer and campy films without funding and with the pressure to change her aesthetic out of necessity into a mainstream one, anxiety that materialises in a visit of her inner demons in one of her dreams.
The anxiety of producing a film without funding due to a non-mainstream aesthetic brings Dorothy into contact with her own inner demons. In the nightmare that seems to be a journey back in the closet, she is faced with a combination of self-doubt and identity questioning, as a result of an industry that requires her to self-censor queer and camp sensibilities, respectively the main issues she wants to address in her film. The demons that seem to belong to a cyberpunk fever-dream are a camp delight, each one of them struggling to get enough screen-time, through the censorship of Dorothy’s identity and her creative impulses. After studying at Paris 8 and at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts of Paris-Cergy, Alexis Langlois directs three short films with the same team: “Trinkets and dark thoughts”, “Your young years will dry your tears” and “Terror, Sisters !”. He just finished the fourth, “The demons of Dorothy” that premiered in Locarno 2021. Alexis is currently developing his first feature film “Drama Queens” and a burlesque sitcom named “Body Positive”.
