Recurring recollections of his time in the town of Koza started infiltrating the dreams of photographer Kosuke Okahara, pushing him to return to the dream and leaving reality.
Through a chain of static images captured onto a porous reel, Kosuke Okahara slides down a river of thoughts, which try to impose limits between dreams and reality. This cognitive mechanism starts off from his memory about the town of Koza, depicted in black-and-white colors, which linger on the screen and contain simple and sublime testimonies about human life. Insisting on the idea of a fluxus, Okahara compares his endeavor to the waves of an ocean in the voice-over – the images and memories come and go, one at a time. “Blue Affair” is a subtle combination between an impressionistic, onieric journey and a documentary investigation of the moment, and its slow and meditative rhythm make it take the shape of a trance. (Diana Smeu)
Okahara grew up in Tokyo and started his career as a photographer after college graduation where he studied education. His 10 meter scroll art book “Vanishing existence” was exhibited at the art book exhibition in Bavarian State Library in Munich along with artists such as Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Keith Haring and became a part of permanent collections. His works have been exhibited in museums, art fairs, and international photo festivals such as Kunsthal in Rotterdam, Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, Quai Branly Museum, C/O Berlin, Tokyo Photographic art museums, Paris Photo, AIPAD, Kyotographie, etc.
