Like all of Lertxundi’s work, Inner Outer Space is a film about relationships – between characters, between characters and landscape, between image and sound – but also, and ultimately, a deconstruction of the production process that highlights materiality and artifice.
The relationship between what is signified and what is represented seems to be Lertxundi’s starting point in this solemn affective portrait, which reflects the relation between self and outer world. The guides to this mirage are two women, who have a short conversation, then go for a walk through a forest and then ultimately face the waves which are screened onto a wall, which they identify with in a serene visual metaphor. In the first part of the film, Lertxundi works with photographs and drawings of figurative reality, which she splits into boxes that imitate a television set and thus inspire this meditation on the difference between participating in reality and participating in one that is mediated by various channels and means.
